Sound Investment: Building Community Through Music
Sound Investment is a free and fun opportunity to learn an instrument and work towards being in a community band. Open to participants of all skill levels, participants selected an instrument they would like to learn how to play and then were partnered with a professional instructor to learn to rock (or swing or jazz depending on their dream style). We are currently starting Phase 2 of the project which is to have some of the bands perform throughout the community!
Community Performances Open Mic at Lorne Mountain Community Centre Wednesday March 13 - 7pm to 9:30pm at #47 Annie Lake Road Come play a tune or two, or come to listen. Hosted by Remy Rodden. Phase 1: Learning an Instrument & How to Work Together as a Band On September 28, 2018 we held a free Happy Hour event at the Gold Rush Inn to invite those interested to listen to some music, connect with friends, and learn all about this new project open to all levels and ages over 19! At the event live music was performed by Widdershins featuring Scott Maynard, Andrea McColeman, Anne Turner, Lonnie Powell and guests. Following the event 46 people signed up to learn to play various instruments and work together to form several small bands. On December 30, after 3 months of practicing together, we held a private event for all the bands to share their progress with each other, this evening concluded phase 1 of this project. |
